Concept: Narcissists target those who seem easy to manipulate into serving their needs without requiring reciprocation (i.e., passive communication style). Those who narcissists target are less likely to think negatively of others. However, assertive people often have an innately felt aversion to narcissists and tend to warn passive types about their aversion.
Testing someone who you suspect of narcissism: Before introducing loved ones to a new person in your life, ask them to give you their candid assessment, no matter what they say or how it may make you feel.
Examples
Advice: Intuition often detects narcissism. Those who care about you don’t want to see you hurt and will give signs that they believe you will get hurt. Listen to critiques of others in your life. Sometimes it’s a narcissist giving the advice and trying to isolate you. If you’re sure the advice-giver is not a narcissist, there’s a good chance they’re trying to help you avoid a potential disaster.
