Why Free

Good question! I have a selfish reason and a non-selfish one.

Author’s platform

To be honest, fiction authors like me get nowhere in the publishing industry without what we call an author platform. Essentially, I need you to know who I am so I can sell my books. I hope this site will get you to like what I have to offer, then think “I wonder if I’d enjoy Charlton’s Ground?” Maybe you’ll then think, “I could buy the book or listen to it on Audible and find out.” I’m currently seeking representation for my next novel, “Evolution Farm,” which is the first novel in a dystopian trilogy. If I sell enough of Charlton’s Ground, it helps me achieve that goal.

Making a positive difference

The second reason is because I want to help. I believe in the world view I present on my site. I want to see dictatorships collapse under the weight of people demanding equal, universal rights. I delight in hearing that survivors of abuse from toxic people took their lives back. I revel in stories about people saying no to abuse. I’d love to know that I lent a helping hand to those causes. If I laid on my death bed, knowing that I led a life with love as my guide and made a positive difference in people’s lives, I could die happy. Okay, so maybe this one’s a little selfish too, but that’s the nature of love. Happiness leads to happiness. I’ll always choose to make myself part of that process, even if it means putting my work out that for free.
